Bengaluru Residents Face Twelve Hour Power Outages As BESCOM Upgrades Infrastructure Today
Bengaluru residents in the western parts of the city are facing extended power outages as BESCOM undertakes urgent maintenance and capacity upgrades at the Byadarahalli Power Distribution Centre. The planned interruptions, lasting up to 12 hours today, aim to enhance the electricity network’s reliability but are expected to disrupt daily routines, water supply, lift operations, and small business activities across key residential and industrial localities connected to the affected feeders.
The power supply board has scheduled the outage window from 10 am to 10 pm, though restoration is unlikely to be uniform across all streets. “Some areas may see electricity return earlier, while neighbouring localities on the same feeder may experience staggered restoration as systems stabilise,” a BESCOM official noted. The maintenance work, focused on converter capacity enhancement, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Bengaluru’s distribution network and reduce future disruptions.Localities under the West Circle expected to be impacted include Madeshwara Nagar, Prasanna Layout, Hosahalli, Industrial Area, Herohalli, Tunga Nagar, Vishweshwara Nagar, Anjana Nagar, Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Sunkadakatte, Nilagiri Hegganahalli, Kodigehalli, Skanda Nagar, Chikkagollarahatti, Seegehalli, Padmavathi Industrial Area, Shantilal Layout, BBMP Plant area, Rangegowda Layout, Kannahalli, Sunkadakatte Industrial Area, and D Group Layout. Residents outside these zones may also experience low voltage, brief interruptions, or delayed supply depending on feeder connectivity.
Extended daytime outages affect not only households but also urban services. Water pumps in apartment complexes, lifts, and daily business operations are likely to face disruption. Small-scale enterprises, particularly in industrial layouts, may need to reschedule high-load activities or arrange temporary power backups to maintain billing and digital transactions. BESCOM has advised residents to charge essential devices, keep power banks ready, and avoid using heavy appliances immediately after restoration to prevent overloading the network.Apartment associations are urged to plan generator use carefully, maintain adequate fuel stocks, and communicate backup schedules to residents to ensure uninterrupted services. BESCOM has also provided zone-wise WhatsApp helplines for complaints and updates, facilitating real-time communication and prompt resolution, particularly for residents in Byadarahalli and surrounding areas.
Urban planners highlight that while such outages pose temporary inconvenience, they are necessary for sustainable urban energy management. Capacity enhancement projects like this contribute to resilient, low-carbon electricity infrastructure and support Bengaluru’s long-term goal of providing inclusive, reliable power across its growing urban landscape.
