Bengaluru Residents Brace For Power Cut Today 22 December 2025

Bengaluru residents are preparing for a planned power outage on Monday, 22 December 2025, as the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) conducts scheduled maintenance at the Kambipura substation. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has advised affected households and businesses that electricity will be unavailable between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, urging them to plan essential activities accordingly. The temporary disruption aims to enhance grid reliability and support the city’s growing energy demands.

The outage will impact multiple south-western neighbourhoods, including Kambipura, Karubele, H Gollahalli, Katanayakanapura, Varahasandra, Swamijinagar, Anchepalya, Aprameyanagar, Krishna Temple Government School area, Provident Apartments, VBHC Avtomento, Good Earth, Srinidhi Green Layout, and Devagere, along with surrounding localities. BESCOM emphasised that the maintenance is crucial for long-term energy stability and to minimise the risk of unplanned blackouts that can disrupt residential and commercial activities.Officials highlighted that quarterly maintenance at the 66/11 KV Kambipura substation is part of broader efforts to modernise Bengaluru’s electricity infrastructure. “Regular upkeep of substations and distribution networks is critical to ensure uninterrupted supply and accommodate the city’s rising consumption,” said a senior KPTCL engineer. BESCOM encouraged residents to complete high-energy tasks in advance, charge essential devices, and cooperate during the scheduled downtime.

Urban energy analysts note that Bengaluru’s rapid urbanisation and increasing reliance on digital infrastructure make such maintenance essential. Modernising substations not only prevents sudden failures but also strengthens the grid against extreme weather events and reduces long-term operational losses. “Scheduled outages, when communicated properly, are a small but necessary step toward sustainable and resilient urban energy systems,” an energy consultant observed.BESCOM has provided residents multiple avenues for real-time updates, including its official website and the helpline 1912. These channels allow consumers to track area-specific outage schedules and seek assistance, ensuring that disruptions remain manageable for households and businesses.

The outage also reflects broader sustainability considerations. By upgrading substations and distribution infrastructure, Bengaluru aims to reduce reliance on emergency power generation, lowering carbon emissions and supporting the city’s transition toward greener, more resilient urban systems. Residents can treat temporary disruptions as an opportunity to adopt energy-efficient habits, such as shifting electricity-intensive activities outside the outage window and exploring backup solutions. As Bengaluru continues to grow, planned interventions like this maintenance work are vital to balance infrastructural improvements with civic convenience, ultimately supporting a reliable, inclusive, and sustainable energy future.
