Bengaluru’s long-awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro is poised to commence partial operations by June 2025, marking a significant milestone in the city’s urban transit development.
The 19.15-kilometre corridor, stretching from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road to Bommasandra, aims to enhance connectivity to key areas, including the bustling Electronic City. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has received approval from the Railway Board for the rolling stock, a crucial step toward operational readiness. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) inspection, a statutory requirement before public launch, is anticipated by the end of May. Following the inspection, BMRCL plans to address any recommendations within two weeks, setting the stage for a mid to late June inauguration.
Initially, services will operate between five major stations, with full-scale operations expected to follow after final approvals. Despite the completion of physical infrastructure months ago, delays in the delivery of driverless train sets have postponed the launch. Currently, two train sets are available, with a third expected shortly, bolstering readiness for operations. The Yellow Line’s launch is anticipated to significantly alleviate traffic congestion on key arterial roads and provide a reliable alternative for daily commuters in south Bengaluru.
By connecting residential and commercial hubs, the metro line aligns with the city’s broader goals of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly urban transportation. As Bengaluru continues to grapple with traffic challenges, the partial commencement of the Yellow Line represents a pivotal advancement in the city’s public transport infrastructure, promising improved mobility and reduced carbon emissions.
