Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is set to improve train frequency on the Yellow Line after the arrival of the sixth coach for its fifth trainset. Officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that the complete trainset is expected to begin operations by mid-October, potentially reducing train intervals to 15 minutes and easing congestion along the busy corridor.
The coaches, manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in West Bengal, were transported over 2,036 km in 11 days, with the first three arriving at the Hebbagodi depot late Sunday and the remaining three around midnight on Monday. These coaches are fully produced in India under a sub-contract from China’s CRRC Nanjing Puzhen, which has been awarded a ₹1,578-crore contract to supply 36 trainsets.

Once delivered, the coaches will be assembled into a complete trainset and moved to the Inspection Bay Line at the Hebbagodi depot for static testing. Following this, night trial runs on the Yellow Line will be conducted over two weeks to ensure safety and operational efficiency. The Yellow Line, spanning 19.15 km from RV Road to Bommasandra via Silk Board Junction, opened on August 11 with three trainsets and a 25-minute frequency. Following the addition of the fourth trainset, frequencies improved to 19 minutes on September 10. The line currently serves approximately 84,000 passengers daily. With this new trainset, Bengaluru’s metro network now covers 96.1 km, contributing to daily ridership exceeding one million commuters citywide.
Officials highlighted that the addition of the sixth coach aligns with broader objectives to provide sustainable, eco-friendly urban transport. By increasing train frequency, the metro aims to reduce reliance on private vehicles, lowering carbon emissions and congestion in the city. Experts also note that improved connectivity on the Yellow Line can enhance last-mile accessibility and encourage more residents to adopt public transport.Further deliveries are expected by the end of the year, with three more trainsets scheduled to join the network. The move reflects Bengaluru’s ongoing commitment to expanding metro infrastructure while ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainable urban mobility.
