Bengaluru Hennur Bagalur Road Partially Closed For Three Months Traffic Diversions Advised

Bengaluru commuters are set to face extended travel times as the Hennur–Bagalur Main Road undergoes a three-month white topping project led by the Greater Bengaluru Authority. Heavy vehicles will be temporarily restricted between Faran College and Vaddarapalya Junction Rajakaluve, while alternative routes are being advised to maintain traffic flow and ensure safety during the road upgrade.

The initiative aims to enhance road durability and improve overall safety on one of north Bengaluru’s key arterial routes. City traffic officials emphasise that restricting heavy vehicles is critical to avoid bottlenecks and facilitate smooth execution of the project. Light motor vehicles will still be permitted to use the stretch, although delays are likely during peak hours.Traffic authorities have mapped out multiple diversions for heavy vehicles to reduce congestion. Northbound vehicles from Bagalur heading towards K.R. Puram are advised to navigate via Gunduru–Avalahalli and Old Madras Road. Airport-bound trucks from Hennur–Bagalur should take Outer Ring Road and Thanisandra Main Road through Bellahalli Junction, connecting to Reva College and Bagalur Road. Vehicles from International Airport Road towards the city can follow Thanisandra Main Road via Nagawara Junction to Hebbal, while Bagalur-bound traffic is directed through Bellahalli Junction and Kogilu Cross.

Urban planners highlight that while such projects temporarily inconvenience commuters, they play a crucial role in long-term infrastructure resilience. “Upgrading road surfaces with white topping not only improves vehicle longevity but also reduces maintenance costs and enhances safety for all users,” said a senior urban transport official. The city has also provided an advisory for airport-bound commuters to avoid delays. Motorists can take a left from Hennur Junction to K. Narayanapura Cross, then proceed via Kristu Jayanti College and Rachenahalli Road, ultimately connecting to Thanisandra Main Road. This route helps reduce congestion on the main construction stretch while maintaining connectivity for residents and businesses.Experts note that strategic traffic management during construction is essential in rapidly growing urban centres like Bengaluru. By coordinating vehicle diversions, regulating heavy vehicle access, and informing citizens in advance, authorities aim to balance short-term inconvenience with long-term efficiency, supporting the city’s broader goals of sustainable mobility and resilient infrastructure.

The white topping project is expected to strengthen connectivity across north Bengaluru, enhancing commuter experience and road safety. While temporary disruptions are unavoidable, careful planning and adherence to suggested diversions are expected to mitigate major delays, underscoring the city’s commitment to efficient, safe, and sustainable urban transport.
