Bengaluru Faces Clear Skies Morning Night Chill North Karnataka Cold Wave Likely
Bengaluru is set for clear skies tomorrow, with daytime temperatures reaching around 20°C, while mornings and nights remain distinctly cold. Winds of 15 km/h and humidity near 53% will add to the crisp weather. Air quality continues to stay in the poor category, ranging from 65 to 180 AQI. Meanwhile, North Karnataka is likely to experience intensified cold, with districts like Raichur, Bidar, and Kalaburagi facing a possible localised cold wave.
Over the past two days, Karnataka has experienced a relatively moderate winter. North Karnataka recorded its lowest temperatures in Raichur at 9.4°C, while South Interior areas such as Chintamani dropped to 10°C. Most other regions stayed above 10°C, indicating a mild winter across much of the state. “Winter patterns remain uneven, with northern districts experiencing sharper night-time chills than the southern parts,” an official from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The IMD has forecast that colder conditions will intensify across North Karnataka in the coming days. Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Yadgir are expected to witness notable temperature dips during nights, signalling a potential cold wave. In contrast, South Interior districts including Mysuru, Mandya, and Hassan will experience dry mornings and mild daytime warmth, while coastal districts like Udupi and Dakshina Kannada can expect sunny, dry conditions with moderately cold nights.
Other regions such as Tumkur, Davangere, and Chitradurga are likely to have similar dry and chilly weather. Northern districts including Dharwad, Haveri, and Gadag may see slightly colder nights, while northwestern areas such as Vijayapura and Bagalkote are expected to remain cold and dry. Urban planners note that persistent low temperatures coupled with poor air quality can exacerbate respiratory health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and people with pre-existing conditions.Experts emphasise that cities like Bengaluru must integrate winter preparedness into long-term urban sustainability plans. Expanding green cover, promoting renewable energy for heating, and improving public transport can reduce localised pollution while enhancing climate resilience. “Addressing both seasonal cold and air quality is crucial to ensure inclusive, healthy urban living,” said a senior urban analyst.
As Karnataka navigates this winter phase, residents are advised to monitor weather updates and exercise caution during early mornings and nights. While sunny days provide respite, persistent chills across northern and interior districts underscore the seasonal variations that continue to influence daily life in the state.
