Bengaluru Airport to Feature IndiGos Rs 1100 Crore MRO Facility

IndiGo has announced plans to set up a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.

The ₹1100 crore investment underscores IndiGo’s commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities and contributing to the growth of the aviation sector in India. The upcoming MRO facility will span 31 acres and is designed to accommodate four wide-body or eight narrow-body aircraft simultaneously. It will feature dedicated hangars for maintenance, repair, and painting, along with provisions to support IndiGo’s expanding fleet, including the A320/A321XLR and A350 series aircraft. Additionally, the facility will service aircraft from IndiGo’s codeshare partners, further strengthening its position in the global aviation network. This investment is poised to generate over 750 direct jobs across various sectors, including engineering, logistics, and support services. The establishment of the MRO facility is expected to enhance Kempegowda International Airport’s capacity to handle approximately 1,300 aircraft by the 2031 fiscal year, scaling up to about 2,100 aircraft by the 2037-38 financial year.

This expansion will not only bolster the airport’s operational efficiency but also attract leading global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and tier-1 suppliers, creating a multiplier effect that boosts ancillary industries, vendor ecosystems, and skill development across the region. The Karnataka government’s proactive approach in fostering the aerospace and aviation manufacturing sectors has been instrumental in facilitating this development. The state’s commitment to advancing these industries aligns with IndiGo’s vision to position Bengaluru as a key global aviation hub. The establishment of the MRO facility is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the government and the private sector to strengthen India’s position in the global aviation landscape.

IndiGo’s investment in the MRO facility at Kempegowda International Airport marks a pivotal step in enhancing India’s aviation infrastructure. The project not only promises to improve operational efficiencies for IndiGo but also contributes to the broader economic development of the region through job creation and the stimulation of ancillary industries. As Bengaluru continues to emerge as a prominent player in the global aviation sector, initiatives like this underscore the city’s growing significance in the international aviation ecosystem.
