BC Jindal Group has secured a 150 MW Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable energy project through a competitive reverse auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
This project is a segment of SECI’s expansive 1,200 MW RTC renewable energy initiative, aimed at ensuring consistent and reliable green power supply across the nation. Awarded at a tariff of ₹5.07 per kilowatt-hour, the project mandates the BC Jindal Group to develop Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected renewable energy facilities. This encompasses responsibilities such as land identification, project installation, obtaining necessary approvals, and establishing interconnection points with the ISTS network to facilitate power delivery to distribution companies (DISCOMs) under the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) facilitated by SECI.
An official from the BC Jindal Group expressed that securing this project underscores the conglomerate’s unwavering commitment to delivering dependable renewable energy solutions. The official highlighted that this achievement significantly propels the group’s objective of contributing to India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. This development is part of the group’s broader strategy to invest $2.5 billion in the renewable energy sector by 2030. The investment plan includes the establishment of a solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, projected to have an annual capacity of 2 GW and expected to be operational by September 2026.
Furthermore, the group’s renewable energy arm, Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE), has recently secured two significant projects: a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project from SJVN and another 300 MW solar-plus-storage project from NHPC. These projects are integral to India’s efforts to enhance grid stability and ensure a consistent power supply through advanced battery energy storage systems. Established in 1952, the BC Jindal Group has evolved from a steel pipe manufacturer into a diversified conglomerate with a substantial presence in the power sector. Currently operating a 1,200 MW thermal power generation unit in Angul, Odisha, the group is now channeling its focus towards renewable energy, aligning with global sustainability goals and India’s clean energy transition.
The group’s proactive approach in securing RTC renewable energy projects and investing in manufacturing capabilities underscores its commitment to supporting India’s vision of a sustainable and equitable energy future. By integrating renewable energy solutions with advanced storage technologies, the BC Jindal Group aims to play a pivotal role in mitigating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability. As India accelerates its transition towards a zero-net carbon economy, initiatives like these from leading conglomerates are instrumental in driving the nation towards a greener and more sustainable future.
