The construction of the Ejipura flyover in Bengaluru has hit a roadblock as the contracting company, BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd, has attributed the sluggish progress of the project to the Bangalore Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
The flyover, which commenced in 2017, has faced setbacks due to unresolved issues, according to the contractor’s response to a notice issued by BBMP. In its reply, BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd highlighted BBMP’s failure to address critical matters such as land acquisition and delayed payments, which have hampered the project’s timeline. The flyover, designed to integrate Ejipura Main Inner Ring Road Junction, Sony World Junction, and Kendriya Sadan Junction along the 100-ft Inner Ring Road in Koramangala, has encountered multiple hurdles in execution. BBMP’s notice on May 24 outlined seven deficiencies in project execution, including delays in payment and unresolved land acquisition issues. Despite the contractor’s compliance with furnishing necessary bank guarantees, BBMP released only 75% of the mobilisation advance on March 8, 2024, with the remaining 25% pending.
Furthermore, BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd asserted that despite repeated requests to BBMP to expedite the acquisition of required land at crucial junctions, no progress has been made. Regarding allegations of failure to take over the casting yard and other materials at the site, the contractor clarified that pending rent owed by the previous contractor needs resolution from BBMP’s end. The contractor’s grievances underscore the complexities and challenges faced in executing large-scale infrastructure projects, especially in urban areas. The Ejipura flyover’s delay not only impacts traffic management but also reflects broader issues of coordination and accountability between civic authorities and construction agencies. As the project’s future hangs in the balance, stakeholders await decisive action from BBMP to address the underlying issues and expedite the completion of the Ejipura flyover, ensuring smoother transportation and enhanced urban infrastructure for Bengaluru residents.
