The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will construct two new flyovers and an underpass in Banjara Hills as part of the state’s ambitious Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme.
The move is aimed at easing traffic congestion in one of the city’s busiest commercial and residential corridors. The projects include a two-lane unidirectional flyover at NFCL Junction, a three-lane flyover from Mugdha Junction to NFCL Junction, and a two-lane underpass at TV9 Junction. Together, the works are estimated to cost Rs 368 crore, as reported by The New Indian Express. The NFCL flyover, running from Road No. 3 towards GVK Mall, will feature a viaduct supported by reinforced earth walls and crash barriers on each side. The three-lane Mugdha Junction flyover will span 12 metres in width, with a carriageway designed for unidirectional traffic and improved structural safety through pier protection and anti-carbonation coatings.
The proposed underpass at TV9 Junction will connect NFCL Junction with Srinagar Colony. It will be 10 metres wide and include dual-purpose utility ducts for drainage and pedestrian movement, as well as an underground sump with a capacity of two lakh litres for flood mitigation. These projects form part of a larger package of 32 infrastructure upgrades across Hyderabad, sanctioned under H-CITI with an overall administrative outlay of Rs 5,942 crore. Tenders have been invited on an EPC/turnkey basis, with responsibilities including design, survey, construction, and a one-year defect liability maintenance period.
With this push, Telangana continues its emphasis on transforming urban infrastructure to support rising mobility demands, reduce commute times, and enhance public safety in high-density zones.
