Balmer Lawrie, a diversified PSU, has entered into a 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) to utilise the storage and warehousing space of CWC for providing cold chain logistics, general warehousing and ancillary services. The move is expected to bolster Balmer Lawrie’s cold chain business unit, which aims to achieve over INR 100 crore in revenue by 2027. The PSU is setting up mini-temperature-controlled warehouses with 1,500 to 2,000 pallet positions in tier-II and -III cities across India.
Balmer Lawrie and CWC will leverage each other’s strengths and capabilities to cater to the growing demand in the sector. With the availability of CWC’s strategic locations and infrastructure, the association is expected to address challenges related to the supply gap in the cold chain logistics segment for improved functioning. The collaboration will also help expand both companies’ presence in the cold chain logistics and general warehousing and distribution segments pan-India.
CWC boasts a network of 458 warehouses across the country, and the synergy is expected to channel Balmer Lawrie’s expertise and presence in the sector to explore mutually beneficial business opportunities. The MoU is a significant step towards achieving the common goal of providing quality and cost-effective cold chain logistics and warehousing services to customers across the country.
The MoU signing marks a milestone in the journey of Balmer Lawrie and CWC who will work together to meet the market’s and customers’ evolving needs. With the government’s focus on the development of the logistics sector and the push for ease of doing business, this partnership is expected to contribute towards the growth of the sector.
