Assam has initiated a pioneering approach to combat poverty with the introduction of Pension and Orunodoi Day every 10th of the month, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. This strategic move aims to provide crucial financial assistance to economically vulnerable families throughout the state.
The Orunodoi scheme, which currently supports 43,80,741 individuals, involves a substantial monthly disbursement totaling Rs 384.62 crore. This financial aid is directly credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts, ensuring efficient and timely distribution.
Recently expanded, the scheme now incorporates the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension and the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Sahayata Yojana. It also encompasses existing schemes such as the Shaheed Kushal Konwar Old Age Pension, National Disabled Pension, Widows Pension, and Old Age Pension, forming a comprehensive safety net for disadvantaged groups. This initiative underscores Assam’s commitment to uplifting its citizens from financial hardships, aligning with broader socio-economic development goals. By dedicating a specific day each month to these disbursements, the government aims to streamline welfare efforts and maximize impact across communities.
The Orunodoi scheme’s expansion reflects Assam’s proactive stance in addressing socio-economic disparities, setting a benchmark for similar initiatives nationwide.
