Ashwini Vaishnaw to Inaugurate New Terminal and Second Entry at Charlapalli Railway Station
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will officially inaugurate the new terminal and second entry at Charlapalli Railway Station, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transport infrastructure. The inauguration will also feature G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of Coal & Mines, along with other senior officials, as the station prepares to handle increasing passenger traffic with modern facilities and expanded capacity.
The Rs. 413 crore redevelopment of Charlapalli Railway Station is a strategic move aimed at relieving congestion at existing terminals like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, and Lingampalli. Situated in the rapidly developing eastern part of Hyderabad, near the Outer Ring Road, Charlapalli was identified as an ideal location to cater to the growing demand for better connectivity in the city.
The revamped Charlapalli Railway Station boasts a range of modern features to enhance passenger experience. The new terminal building has been designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind, featuring a sleek, modern architectural facade. The ground floor will house six booking counters, separate waiting halls for men and women, an upper-class waiting area, and an executive lounge. For passengers’ convenience, the first floor will accommodate a cafeteria, a restaurant, and restrooms. In addition, the station will have nine platforms, with new high-level platforms and extensions to existing platforms to accommodate full-length trains. The addition of ten more lines will bring the station’s total capacity to 19 lines, allowing Charlapalli to handle an extra 15 pairs of train services. This expansion is expected to ease congestion at other terminals in the region and provide greater connectivity.
Officials have placed a strong emphasis on improving accessibility for all passengers. The station will feature seven lifts and six escalators across all platforms to facilitate smooth movement for people with varying needs. Two spacious Foot Over Bridges (FoBs), one measuring 12 metres and the other 6 metres wide, will ensure seamless movement between platforms. Additionally, the station’s ample parking spaces will cater to four-wheelers, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers, while a dedicated bus bay will further enhance its connectivity. Safety has been a priority with round-the-clock CCTV surveillance, public announcement systems, and digital display boards that provide real-time updates on train schedules. This will further strengthen Charlapalli’s status as a major transport hub in the Hyderabad-Secunderabad region.
The redevelopment of Charlapalli Railway Station reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure in response to the growing demand for efficient public transport. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has expressed confidence that these upgrades will provide immense benefits to both passengers and the city, reducing pressure on existing railway stations and improving overall connectivity in the region. The focus on passenger-centric amenities, modern safety measures, and expanded capacity indicates that Charlapalli is poised to become a key railway terminal in Hyderabad. As the city continues to grow, this new terminal and second entry are expected to be vital in shaping the future of urban mobility in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas.
