The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region is poised for a transformative upgrade as the APCRDA has sanctioned Rs 9.04 billion to strengthen infrastructure across 29 villages in Amaravati’s greenfield capital zone. Officials stated that this investment aims to address significant gaps in roads, drains, water supply, sewerage, and street lighting, marking a pivotal step in developing a sustainable and equitable urban ecosystem.
A comprehensive assessment of the villages revealed a 30 per cent deficit in potable water, absence of sewerage networks, a 40 per cent shortfall in road infrastructure, and a 10 per cent gap in street lighting. Based on these findings, Rs 640 million has been allocated for water supply enhancements, Rs 1.11 billion for sewerage systems, Rs 3.39 billion for road construction, and Rs 120 million for street lighting, covering maintenance and operational costs for seven years. Officials emphasised that the upgraded infrastructure will integrate seamlessly with Amaravati’s existing 360 km of trunk roads and 1,500 km of layout roads, alongside parallel drains, power lines, and water supply networks. This integration is expected to promote efficient mobility, enhance public safety, and support sustainable urban growth across the region.
In parallel, the APCRDA is actively facilitating industrial and educational growth. Seventy-eight acres in Mangalagiri have been allocated to establish a gems and jewellery park, projected to attract Rs 50 million in investments and generate 20,000 employment opportunities. Land parcels have also been earmarked for private colleges and a bioengineering university, aimed at boosting human capital and innovation in the capital region. Experts highlight that the APCRDA’s focus on greenfield infrastructure aligns with sustainable city-building principles, ensuring zero net carbon footprints, equitable access, and resilience against urban pressures. By investing in comprehensive urban systems, Amaravati is setting benchmarks for eco-friendly township development while improving quality of life for residents in surrounding villages.
Officials confirmed that these decisions will now be forwarded to the state cabinet for approvals on loans, tenders, and project execution. A high-priority timeline has been set to expedite construction, ensuring the projects are completed within the current season. Planners are integrating modern, gender-neutral, and environmentally responsible design approaches to create a connected and future-ready capital region. Urban planners and policy analysts point out that such large-scale, integrated infrastructure development not only bridges gaps in basic services but also enhances regional competitiveness. Improved connectivity, better sanitation, and reliable water supply are expected to attract investors, improve business confidence, and foster inclusive growth across Amaravati’s villages.
