The Union Cabinet has approved the development of a 4-lane highway corridor between Badvel and Nellore.
The project, estimated at Rs 3653.10 crore, spans 108.13 km and is set to bolster regional economic growth and employment opportunities. The new corridor will connect Badvel-Gopavaram Village (NH-67) to Guruvindapudi (NH-16), facilitating smoother access to key industrial nodes in the state. Notably, the project aims to reduce the travel distance to Krishnapatnam Port by approximately 33.9 km, from 142 km to 108.13 km, thereby enhancing logistical efficiency and reducing transportation costs. Implemented under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) model, the project is expected to generate over 43 lakh man-days of employment, including 20 lakh direct and 23 lakh indirect man-days.
This initiative aligns with the government’s focus on infrastructure development as a means to stimulate economic activity and create job opportunities. The highway’s construction is anticipated to improve access to major industrial corridors, including Kopparthy on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai corridor, Orvakal on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru corridor, and Krishnapatnam on the Chennai-Bengaluru corridor. This strategic positioning is expected to enhance the state’s industrial linkages and attract further investments. Furthermore, the project underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable development. By reducing travel distances and times, the highway is poised to contribute to lower vehicle emissions, aligning with environmental goals.
The emphasis on eco-friendly construction practices and the potential for green corridors along the route highlight the project’s alignment with sustainable infrastructure development. In conclusion, the approval of the Badvel-Nellore highway project marks a pivotal moment in Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure development. By improving connectivity, boosting industrial growth, and generating employment, the project is set to play a crucial role in the state’s economic advancement. As construction progresses, stakeholders will be keenly watching its impact on regional development and sustainability goals.
