Andhra Pradesh Government Allocates ₹600 Crore for Road Infrastructure

The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced a substantial ₹600 crore investment to address the deteriorating condition of roads across the state. The move is part of a comprehensive plan to revamp the state’s infrastructure.

especially the roads that have been beyond repair, impacting commuters and hindering smooth transportation. This latest allocation aligns with the government’s long-term goal of improving connectivity and enhancing road safety for citizens. In a statement issued on Friday, the State’s Minister for Roads and Buildings outlined the ambitious objectives behind this financial commitment, aimed specifically at repairing Major District Roads (MDRs) and State Highways (SHs) that have fallen into severe disrepair. The primary focus will be on roads categorized under Category-C, the most damaged and in dire need of immediate restoration. With this funding, the state government is targeting both the reconstruction and the upgrading of over 1,400 km of road infrastructure across the state

This initiative comes on the heels of an earlier ₹861 crore investment that was dedicated to repairing nearly 20,000 km of roads. The government has made significant strides in ensuring that roads are free from potholes, making everyday commutes safer and more comfortable. However, as per the latest announcement, the focus will shift to areas where roads remain largely unusable, including key rural and semi-urban sectors, as well as the fringes of major cities.Under the new development strategy, the Roads and Buildings Department is overseeing 86 ongoing projects under the Major District Roads (MDRs) initiative. These projects span across 64 constituencies and will see ₹200 crore allocated to repair and upgrade 536 km of roads. Simultaneously, ₹400 crore will be earmarked for improving 896.41 km of State Highways through 139 projects in 99 constituencies

This ₹600 crore plan, which encompasses the completion of 225 separate projects, is designed not only to restore the roads but to future-proof the state’s transport infrastructure against wear and tear. The key priorities include reducing road accidents, enhancing vehicle movement, and offering residents better, faster, and safer travel options. As the State Government works under the Central government’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme, it is also placing special emphasis on eco-friendly measures that support the long-term sustainability of road construction. It is anticipated that in the coming five years, this extensive road development will help meet the needs of a growing population and increase economic activity by ensuring faster transportation of goods and services across the state.
Additionally, the Andhra Pradesh government is exploring advanced techniques for building roads that are both durable and environmentally conscious. The integration of green technologies and sustainable materials in road repair and construction is a key area of focus to align with broader national goals of reducing carbon footprints and fostering greener cities.

The efforts, which are set to be completed within an ambitious timeline, will have significant long-term benefits for both the rural and urban parts of the state. With improved road conditions, businesses are expected to thrive, and residents will experience fewer disruptions, while the government remains committed to making a marked difference to the overall quality of life.As Andhra Pradesh embarks on this monumental road improvement journey, there is a palpable sense of hope for smoother, safer, and more reliable transportation infrastructure. This plan is viewed not just as a repair job but as an essential step towards creating a more connected, efficient, and sustainable state. If successfully executed, these projects will restore the pride and functionality of the state’s roads, providing tangible benefits for citizens over the next few years.
