Amit Shah Inaugurates ₹651 Crore Worth of Development Projects in Ahmedabad
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 37 projects across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, amounting to an impressive ₹651 crore. These projects, which span areas such as water supply, drainage, roads, housing, and healthcare, are set to significantly improve the quality of life for residents in these cities. The event, held on Thursday, was graced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Cabinet Minister Rushikesh Patel, and Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma. Shah inaugurated 10 projects worth ₹95 crore and laid the foundation for 27 others valued at ₹556 crore, benefiting several constituencies including Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, and Gandhinagar Lok Sabha.
Shah expressed his deep gratitude to the residents of Ranip, the constituency he has represented multiple times. “The people of this area have elected me five times as an MLA and twice as an MP. Serving this region is my duty,” Shah remarked. His comments were a reflection of his long-standing relationship with the community, and he assured the public that the new projects would directly address some of the region’s most pressing issues. In particular, Shah highlighted the significant development planned for the Chandrabhaga Canal area. With the completion of drainage and development works, many long-standing issues will be permanently resolved, he assured. Additionally, Shah announced plans for an amusement park in the region, which had previously struggled with mosquito breeding due to stagnant water.
The inauguration included rainwater drainage projects for over 350 societies in a single day, which will be funded through state government funds as well as MP and MLA contributions. Shah urged residents to adopt percolation wells and install solar rooftops as part of the government’s efforts to promote water conservation and sustainable energy solutions. These initiatives are designed to reduce dependency on traditional water supply systems and mitigate the impact of urbanisation. Shah also lauded the launch of the ‘Doodh Sanjivani Yojana,’ a scheme aimed at improving child nutrition. This initiative will provide nutritious meals to children in Anganwadis and schools, helping to combat malnutrition and promote overall child welfare.
During his address, Shah paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birth anniversary, reflecting on his legacy and the sacrifices made for India’s independence. The Union Home Minister emphasized the importance of balancing development with heritage preservation, particularly in Ahmedabad, which is a UNESCO World Heritage City. Shah pointed out that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the region has witnessed significant infrastructure development while preserving its rich cultural heritage. He specifically mentioned the development of modern infrastructure, such as the newly constructed D-Cabin LC 241 and Chenpur LC2 underpasses, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving transportation efficiency. Additionally, housing projects were launched under the slum rehabilitation policy, with 83 housing units and 12 shops distributed to local beneficiaries, marking a significant step in providing better living conditions to economically disadvantaged communities.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also highlighted the government’s focus on urban development, noting that the state’s urbanisation budget had reached ₹21,696 crore. Patel reaffirmed the state’s commitment to creating sustainable urban spaces that prioritise welfare and infrastructure. He further stressed that the development initiatives launched on this day are in line with the Prime Minister’s vision for “Ease of Living,” aiming to enhance the happiness index of citizens. The projects inaugurated by Shah aim not only to modernise the city but also to improve the overall standard of living, ensuring that both heritage and modernity coexist harmoniously. The inclusion of social welfare schemes like the Doodh Sanjivani Yojana and the focus on sustainable infrastructure, such as percolation wells and solar rooftops, demonstrates a holistic approach to urban growth. Amit Shah’s visit to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar marks an important milestone in the region’s ongoing development journey.
