Amit Shah Hails Historic Railway Allocation in Gujarat, Calls it a ‘Golden Period’ of Development

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for a historic allocation of Rs 17,155 crore for railway infrastructure in Gujarat for the year 2025-26. In his remarks, Shah highlighted the incredible progress that Gujarat’s railway network has made under the Modi government, especially when compared to the earlier years of the previous administration.

In a recent post on X, Shah praised the Modi government’s focus on development, calling it a “golden period” for the country’s railway sector. He pointed out that the previous government, which held office between 2009-2014, allocated just Rs 589 crore for Gujarat’s railways. However, under the leadership of PM Modi, the allocation for the state’s railways has surged 29 times, marking a monumental shift towards better connectivity, modernisation, and overall infrastructure development in the state. The allocation of Rs 17,155 crore for Gujarat’s railways in the upcoming year is a testament to the commitment towards enhancing the state’s transportation system. Shah specifically pointed out that the electrification of railway tracks in Gujarat has increased exponentially under the Modi administration. Over the last decade, electrification has grown by an impressive 22 times, bringing the total to 97% of the railway tracks in the state now being electrified.

In addition to the electrification efforts, the budget also includes significant funds for the redevelopment of railway stations. 87 stations in Gujarat will be revamped and upgraded under the Amrit Stations scheme, with an allocation of Rs 6,303 crore. Some of the key stations undergoing transformation include Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, and Ankleshwar. The improvements aim to enhance passenger experience, accessibility, and overall station infrastructure. The government’s ongoing initiative includes the redevelopment of seven major stations at a cost of Rs 5,572 crore, which will further elevate the quality of transportation across Gujarat. These stations, such as Gandhinagar Capital, Sabarmati, and Udhna, are critical hubs for both travel and economic activities. As the Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar, Amit Shah expressed particular pride in the investment allocated to Gandhinagar’s railway station, which will receive Rs 799 crore for redevelopment. This personal connection underscores the importance of the development for Shah and his constituents. The redevelopment of Gandhinagar’s station is set to be a significant boost to the region, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a modernised transportation experience.

The Union Budget’s substantial allocation for railways aims to bolster trade, industry, transportation, and employment in Gujarat. Shah believes this investment will bring about transformative changes for the state, promoting further growth and development in these key sectors. The focus on modernising Gujarat’s railway network is not only about improving commuter experience but also about ensuring sustainability and efficiency in the long term. With nearly all the railway tracks in Gujarat now electrified, the state’s railways are on track to reduce carbon emissions, boost energy efficiency, and contribute to India’s green transport goals. As Amit Shah concluded, the historic railway allocations in the Union Budget are part of the larger vision for nationwide development, and Gujarat will continue to play a central role in this ongoing transformation. The expansion and improvement of railway infrastructure in the state will undoubtedly enhance its connectivity, contributing to the broader socio-economic growth of both Gujarat and India as a whole. This significant financial boost represents an exciting chapter in Gujarat’s infrastructure journey, with the railways expected to play a key role in shaping the state’s future. The 2025-26 Union Budget has indeed made it clear that the government is committed to making this “golden period” of railway development a reality.
