The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced the auction of 13 plots in various strategic locations across Ahmedabad, with a base price collectively set at ₹1,156.09 crore. This move, declared by AMC’s estate department on Thursday, forms part of a broader strategy to monetise municipal assets and boost revenue through the sale of public land.
The upcoming auction marks AMC’s continued efforts to manage its extensive land bank effectively. Previously, the corporation had attempted to auction off 22 plots; however, only six of these, valued at ₹174 crore, were successfully approved for sale. In a notable setback, the sale of a prominent plot in Chandkheda to LuLu International Shopping Malls Pvt Ltd was halted. The transaction, which had a potential value of ₹519 crore, was suspended due to the AMC not having possession of 10,000 square metres of the intended plot. This incident underscores the complexities and challenges that often accompany municipal land transactions.
The newly announced auction of 13 plots is set to proceed with a firm schedule. Prospective buyers must submit their bids and complete registration by September 27. The auction process itself will unfold over three distinct phases, scheduled for September 30, October 1, and October 3. Of the 13 plots on offer, seven are designated for residential development, while the remaining six are earmarked for commercial use. The AMC has projected that the sale of these plots could generate significant revenue, potentially between ₹1,400 crore and ₹1,500 crore. This estimate reflects the high market value of the plots, which are strategically located in areas expected to attract substantial interest from developers and investors.
The decision to auction these plots comes at a time when municipal corporations across India are exploring innovative ways to optimise their assets and strengthen their financial positions. By unlocking the value of its land holdings, AMC aims to fund various infrastructure projects and urban development initiatives, contributing to the city’s growth and development. The move also reflects AMC’s proactive approach to urban planning and resource management, aligning with broader governmental efforts to promote transparency and efficiency in public asset management. As the e-auction dates approach, all eyes will be on the bidding process and the potential impact this significant land sale could have on Ahmedabad’s real estate market.
