AMC Launches Property Tax Digitisation Project

Ahmedabad: In a significant advancement towards modernising its administrative processes, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to commence the digitisation of its property tax records. This move, which has been in the planning stages for nearly a decade, aims to preserve deteriorating documents and streamline access to tax information.

The AMC has recently issued tenders for the establishment of a comprehensive digitisation facility, which will encompass the scanning of both historical tax records and current applications. According to a senior AMC official, many of these documents are in a poor state due to age and handling, and some pertain to ongoing disputes related to land use and legal matters.

The project will involve setting up advanced scanning equipment and computer systems across seven zonal offices. The facility will be equipped with high-speed scanners and computer systems, with the selected agency required to supply at least 14 sets of these resources. Each zonal office will be allocated two sets of equipment to ensure efficient processing and upload of documents to AMC’s software module. “The digitisation initiative will significantly enhance the management of property tax records,” the AMC official stated. “It will improve accessibility, preserve historical data, and resolve disputes more efficiently. This is a crucial step towards modernising our records management and providing better services to the public.”

This digital transformation is expected to address several long-standing issues, including the degradation of physical records and inefficiencies in record retrieval. By transitioning to a digital format, the AMC aims to facilitate quicker access to tax information, reduce administrative burdens, and improve overall transparency within the tax department. The digitisation project is poised to bring substantial benefits to both the AMC and the city’s residents. It will not only safeguard valuable records but also enhance the efficiency of property tax management, ultimately contributing to a more streamlined and user-friendly system for handling tax-related queries and disputes.
