AMC Cracks Down on Citywide Littering

In a robust move to combat littering, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) initiated a comprehensive crackdown across the city on Tuesday.

This operation primarily targeted establishments in both the north-west and south zones, reflecting the civic body’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness. In the north-west zone, AMC officials imposed fines on 83 establishments and issued notices to an additional 71 properties for littering. During this drive, authorities also seized 2kg of banned plastics from vendors. The penalties collected in this zone totalled ₹64,200. A notable case emerged in Chandlodia, where civic contractor Ms SS Saloon on Jagatpur Road was penalised for dumping night soil on a public thoroughfare after clearing a manhole.

Simultaneously, the AMC targeted 75 commercial units in the south zone, which included pan parlours, snack outlets, footwear shops, and electronic shops, for similar offences. This stringent action resulted in fines amounting to ₹2.33 lakh in this zone. The AMC’s initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations and uphold public hygiene standards. By penalising establishments that flout these regulations, the AMC aims to deter littering and promote a cleaner urban environment. This crackdown is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city’s cleanliness and discourage the use of banned plastics, ensuring compliance with civic norms. The significant fines collected, and the rigorous enforcement of anti-littering measures signal a strong message to all city establishments about the importance of adhering to environmental regulations.
