Ambuja Cements Marks Milestone Investment in Bihar

Ambuja Cements has unveiled its ambitious foray into Bihar with the announcement of a significant investment in the state. The company will establish its first cement grinding unit in Warisaliganj, marking the largest investment by a cement industry player in Bihar to date.

The standalone facility, with an overall capacity of 6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), is set to be developed at an estimated cost of INR 1600 crore. The project will be rolled out in three phases. The initial phase, involving a capacity of 2.4 mtpa and an investment of INR 1,100 crore, is slated for completion by December 2025. Provisioning for future expansion has been incorporated, with the subsequent phases anticipated to require lower capital expenditure.

The facility, located in Mosama village, Warisaliganj tehsil, Nawada district, benefits from excellent connectivity, being situated just 1 km from the Warisaliganj railway station and 500 meters from State Highway 83. At a recent foundation stone-laying ceremony, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasised the significance of this investment. “This venture by the Adani Group reflects Bihar’s growth potential and our commitment to sustainable development,” Kumar stated.

The ceremony, hosted by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), was attended by several dignitaries including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Industry Minister Nitish Mishra, and Pranav Adani, Managing Director of Adani Enterprises. The new cement plant is expected to make substantial contributions to the state’s economy, with an estimated INR 250 crore annual addition to state revenue.

The project will also generate 250 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect employment opportunities. BIADA has allocated 67.90 acres for this unit, and environmental clearances for the site have been secured. In addition to the Warisaliganj project, Ambuja Cements has been granted 26.60 acres by BIADA for another facility in Mahbal, Motipur, Muzaffarpur. Environmental approvals for this second project are currently under review, with construction expected to commence soon. This expansion underscores Ambuja Cements’ strategic commitment to bolstering its footprint in India’s growing markets.
