Air India Simplifies Travel with Metro Check-In Service

Air India has joined forces with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) to introduce a convenient check-in facility at two metro stations in Delhi. This initiative, which is already available for domestic flights, will now extend to international travellers, marking a significant upgrade in passenger services.

Effective immediately, international passengers can utilise the check-in and baggage drop services at the New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations. Available from 7 am to 9 pm, this facility allows passengers to check in their baggage at these stations, enabling them to explore the city without the burden of luggage before their flights. The baggage is then securely transferred to the aircraft through an advanced automated system developed by DMRC and DIAL.

The check-in process can be completed between 12 hours to 2 hours prior to departure for domestic flights and 4 to 2 hours prior for international flights. This extended window provides ample flexibility for travellers to manage their time effectively.

With metro trains running at a frequency of every 10 minutes, passengers can reach Terminal 3 of Delhi airport in just 19 minutes, ensuring a quick and hassle-free journey. This efficient transit system is expected to significantly reduce congestion at the airport, providing a smoother experience for all passengers.

An Air India official highlighted the benefits of this initiative, stating, “This initiative not only provides a cost-effective option for travellers coming from distant locations but also helps control congestion at the airport, leading to a better experience for all our customers. This initiative will significantly enhance the convenience of our customers.”

By leveraging the infrastructure and efficiency of the Delhi Metro, this partnership aims to streamline the travel process for international passengers. It reflects Air India’s commitment to improving customer service and operational efficiency. The initiative is particularly beneficial for outstation travellers who wish to explore Delhi without the inconvenience of carrying their luggage around.

This collaboration between Air India, DMRC, and DIAL is a testament to the innovative approaches being adopted to enhance passenger convenience. It underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in improving urban mobility and travel experiences. As international travel rebounds, such measures are crucial in ensuring that passengers enjoy a seamless and stress-free journey from start to finish.

This new check-in facility at Delhi metro stations represents a forward-thinking approach to travel management, aligning with global best practices and catering to the needs of modern travellers. It sets a new standard for passenger convenience in India’s aviation sector, potentially serving as a model for other cities and countries to follow.
