Air India cancels nine international flights amid safety checks and operational challenges

Air India has cancelled nine international flights, including eight operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, due to heightened safety inspections and operational challenges. The cancellations affect routes to and from destinations such as London, Paris, Vienna, Dubai, and San Francisco.

The airline attributes these disruptions to mandatory safety checks mandated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and increased turnaround times caused by airspace closures.  The grounding of several Dreamliners for additional inspections has strained Air India’s operational capacity. While the DGCA’s inspections have not identified major safety issues, the airline is facing challenges in maintaining its schedule.

The ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly the closure of Iranian and Jordanian airspace, have further complicated flight operations, leading to extended flight durations and increased crew fatigue.  In response to these challenges, Air India is working closely with the DGCA to address operational constraints and ensure the safety and comfort of its passengers. The airline is also exploring alternative scheduling and routing options to mitigate the impact of these disruptions.

Passengers affected by the cancellations are being offered rebooking options and accommodations where necessary. The airline’s commitment to safety and operational excellence remains steadfast, and it continues to work diligently to restore its full flight schedule. Air India appreciates the understanding and patience of its passengers during this challenging period.
