Air India Becomes First Indian Airline to Offer In-Flight Wi-Fi

In a groundbreaking move, Air India has become the first Indian airline to offer in-flight Wi-Fi services on both domestic and international flights. Starting January 2025, the airline has rolled out Wi-Fi connectivity on select aircraft, making air travel more connected and convenient than ever before.

For the introductory phase, Air India is offering complimentary Wi-Fi services to all passengers on domestic and international flights operated by its Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. This development places Air India at the forefront of aviation connectivity in India, allowing travelers to stay online while flying across the country and internationally. The Wi-Fi service is designed to provide passengers with seamless internet access, enabling them to browse the web, catch up on social media, send emails, or simply stay in touch with friends and family while on board. The service is compatible with Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones running iOS or Android operating systems. Additionally, passengers can connect multiple devices simultaneously once the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet.

To access the Wi-Fi, passengers simply need to select the ‘Air India Wi-Fi’ network on their device, enter their PNR number and last name on the portal, and start using the service free of charge during the introductory phase. However, Air India has clarified that Wi-Fi access may vary depending on satellite connectivity, overall bandwidth usage, flight routes, and any relevant government regulations. Initially, the service is available on select international flights, including those to major destinations such as New York, London, Paris, and Singapore, operated by the Airbus A350, Boeing B787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. Air India plans to expand the service to more aircraft across its fleet in the coming months.

Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India, shared his enthusiasm about the new offering: “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it’s about the convenience of real-time sharing, while for others, it’s about productivity and efficiency. We are confident that our passengers will appreciate the option to stay connected, making their experience with Air India even more enjoyable.” This service marks a significant enhancement in Air India’s customer experience, aligning the airline with global trends in air travel connectivity. With Wi-Fi now available on both domestic and international flights, passengers can look forward to a more productive and enjoyable journey with India’s flag carrier.
