The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved an innovative design for the much-anticipated 80 crore Lotus Park, set to be developed on a 25,000 sq m plot near Dev City in Gota, along the SG Highway. Inspired by citizens’ love for flowers, the park will celebrate the botanical diversity of India by showcasing blooms representing each state. Conceptually designed as a lotus, the project also emphasises sustainability by adhering to net-zero energy principles. This ambitious initiative underscores Ahmedabad’s growing reputation for combining urban development with ecological mindfulness.
Announced during the AMC’s standing committee meeting, the Lotus Park is poised to be a landmark destination, with its unique architectural design echoing the national flower. The Rs 80 crore budget, allocated in this year’s municipal plan, is reflective of the city’s commitment to enhancing green spaces amidst rapid urbanisation. Alongside this project, the committee also deliberated on citizen safety measures, such as installing wires across bridges before Uttarayan to prevent accidents from kite strings, further solidifying its commitment to public welfare.
From a sustainability perspective, Lotus Park’s net-zero energy approach is a testament to AMC’s dedication to green development. By integrating renewable energy sources and eco-friendly infrastructure, the park aligns with global efforts to combat climate change while promoting biodiversity. It also serves as an educational hub, encouraging visitors to understand the importance of sustainable practices in urban settings.
This initiative comes amid efforts to enhance Ahmedabad’s cleanliness and civic infrastructure. Preparations for an impending cleanliness survey are in full swing, with authorities aiming to showcase the city’s strides in urban management. Lotus Park not only enriches the city’s aesthetic appeal but also fosters community engagement, blending sustainability with civic development.
