In a significant move to enhance Ahmedabad’s infrastructure, the city’s Municipal Corporation has approved an ambitious Rs 792.5 crore project to build a convention, cultural, and business centre on the Sabarmati Riverfront near Paldi. The project, which aims to provide a world-class venue for business functions, cultural events, and social gatherings, has been approved by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) standing committee. The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd. (SRFDCL) will be responsible for preparing the draft project report (DPR), with the state government contributing Rs 500 crore, and the AMC’s share being Rs 292.50 crore.
The proposed development will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a 1,500-seat theatre, a 300-room hotel, an exhibition space, and a parking facility with a capacity for 1,000 vehicles. The project is designed to cater to a variety of events, ranging from business conferences to large weddings and cultural performances. A performing arts venue, amphitheatre, and cultural plaza are also key components, making the location an ideal hub for diverse cultural and commercial activities. The initiative is expected to further establish the Sabarmati Riverfront as a vital landmark, driving tourism, business, and cultural exchange in the region.
The strategic placement of this centre aims to foster both local and international business growth by offering a modern, versatile venue for various corporate and cultural engagements. The integration of high-end facilities with the charm of the riverfront location creates a unique opportunity for Ahmedabad to position itself as a leading business and tourism destination. The development is also seen as a critical step towards strengthening the city’s role as a regional cultural and economic hub, offering infrastructure that matches the demands of an increasingly globalised world.
Sustainability plays a vital role in this development, with the project being designed to incorporate eco-friendly features and energy-efficient systems. The construction will follow guidelines that promote sustainability, such as the use of renewable energy sources, waste management practices, and green building materials. By focusing on environmental sustainability, this convention centre will not only enhance Ahmedabad’s business and cultural landscape but also serve as a model for future urban developments that balance growth with environmental responsibility.
