Ahmedabad experienced a welcome respite from sweltering conditions as the monsoon arrived, bringing moderate to light showers across the city on Friday. The rainfall, ranging from 7.2mm to 27mm in various zones, lowered the maximum temperature to 35.7 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees below normal for this time of year.
Areas in the South-West Zone recorded the highest rainfall, with South Zone and West Zone also receiving significant precipitation. The rain not only cooled the city but also caused localized waterlogging issues, prompting Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to respond to complaints from several areas including Chimanbhai bridge, Ujala Circle, Jashodanagar, and Makarba. Temporary closures of underpasses at Parimal and Jalaram Temple in Paldi were implemented as precautionary measures. Looking ahead, the weather forecast indicates the likelihood of further rain or thundershowers by Saturday evening, with the possibility of heavier rainfall in parts of Ahmedabad district on Sunday. This forecast comes as a relief to residents amidst the prevailing heat, offering prospects of continued cool weather and potentially aiding in alleviating the region’s water scarcity concerns. The timely arrival of monsoon showers underscores the importance of preparedness in urban infrastructure management and highlights the seasonal dynamics crucial for both public comfort and municipal planning in Ahmedabad.
