Ahmedabad commuters are facing significant traffic disruptions as construction on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, popularly known as the bullet train project, encounters delays. The city traffic authorities have issued fresh notifications highlighting road and bridge closures, urging motorists to follow alternate routes until further notice.
The delays, stemming from technical challenges and project scheduling constraints, have extended construction timelines, affecting both city traffic and public transport operations.Officials report that major pillar installation work is underway between Sabarmati and Vatva, with construction concentrated on the Cadila Bridge. Work originally scheduled to be completed earlier has now been extended until November 15, reflecting the complex engineering requirements of high-speed rail infrastructure. Meanwhile, the upcoming bullet train station in Saraspur is also under development, necessitating the closure of a 500-metre stretch between RC Technical Institute and Faizan School for all vehicular traffic. The Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) corridor along the affected zones will remain non-operational during the construction period. BRTS buses are rerouted along alternative city roads to maintain public transit access. In areas where night work is not active near the Cadila Bridge, limited vehicular movement may be permitted under strict monitoring by traffic authorities.
Authorities have also provided guidance for motorists navigating near Kalupur Metro Station. Vehicles approaching from Faizan School are advised to detour via the railway parcel office towards the Gurudwara before proceeding to Janzar Cinema Metro Station. Similarly, commuters from Kalupur Metro Station are directed to use the Saraspur route to reach Gurudwara and Faizan School.City traffic officials emphasise that these measures are critical to ensure the safety of commuters and construction workers while maintaining orderly traffic flow in areas impacted by high-speed rail infrastructure development. Experts note that while the construction work is causing temporary disruptions, it forms a vital component of the larger urban mobility framework designed to improve intercity connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote sustainable transport solutions across the region.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project, once completed, is expected to integrate seamlessly with existing metro and road networks, providing a modern, low-emission alternative to conventional rail and road travel. Authorities continue to monitor progress closely, issuing real-time traffic advisories and urging citizens to adhere to notifications to minimise delays and ensure safe commuting through affected corridors.Ahmedabad’s ongoing experience underscores the broader challenges of implementing advanced urban transport projects in densely populated areas, balancing infrastructure development with commuter convenience and sustainable urban mobility priorities.
