Ahmedabad Public Transport Gets ₹58.47 Cr Boost with 260 Electric Buses
Ahmedabad is set to witness a significant transformation in its public transport system with the introduction of 260 electric buses and seven electric double-decker buses. This initiative, backed by a ₹58.47 crore grant under the Chief Minister’s Urban Bus Transport Scheme, aims to modernise the city’s commuting infrastructure while reducing carbon emissions. The move aligns with Gujarat’s broader push towards sustainable urban mobility, positioning Ahmedabad as a leader in clean public transport.
In addition to Ahmedabad’s public transport expansion, the Gujarat government has approved a substantial ₹537 crore for various urban development and beautification projects. This funding will be distributed across four major municipal corporations—Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar—and seven municipalities, including Dwarka, Visnagar, Palanpur, Tankara, Keshod, Siddhpur, and Mandvi. These investments signal a focused effort to enhance civic amenities, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable urban growth across the state.
Major Allocations and Civic Development Plans
Of the total funds sanctioned, ₹309.72 crore has been dedicated to welfare projects across four major municipal corporations. Rajkot will receive ₹212.50 crore to facilitate the shifting of water pipelines in alignment with the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) Rajkot-Jetpur road expansion project. Meanwhile, Gandhinagar has been granted ₹3.98 crore for improvements in private residential societies, ensuring better civic facilities for urban residents. Bhavnagar, on the other hand, will receive ₹35 crore for critical enhancements in drainage systems, water supply, and street lighting—essential for improving urban livability and environmental sustainability.
These financial injections highlight the government’s commitment to urban renewal and the strengthening of civic infrastructure.
