Ahmedabad has added a new urban landmark to its green infrastructure with the inauguration of Electrotherm Park in South Bopal. Covering 11,600 square metres, the park was developed by Electrotherm (India) Ltd in collaboration with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation under a public-private partnership model. The project reflects a growing trend in Indian cities to integrate leisure, wellness, and ecological design in urban spaces.
The layout draws inspiration from riverine landscapes, connecting open spaces to encourage movement, social interaction, and relaxation. A central entry plaza features a fountain and a signature installation, blending aesthetic appeal with functional public space. One of the park’s standout elements is a water channel alongside the jogging track, offering walkers and runners a calming, nature-integrated experience. Electrotherm Park is designed to be inclusive and age-responsive. It houses two play areas tailored for different age groups: one for toddlers aged 18 months to six years and another for children aged seven to thirteen. Both zones feature play equipment aimed at fostering physical activity, coordination, and cognitive development. Complementary amenities include a pet park, open-air gym, traditional-games corners, and shaded seating pavilions to accommodate all age groups.
The park’s landscape integrates more than 22,800 plants, including 21 species of large trees, 14 fruit tree varieties, and diverse flowering plants. These efforts have transformed previously barren land into a micro-climate that supports biodiversity while offering educational opportunities for children through orchard-based learning. The design and execution, led by the company’s senior management, ensured sustainability, accessibility, and long-term community engagement were central to the project’s objectives. Urban development experts note that such initiatives reflect a shift towards multi-functional public spaces that promote wellness, ecological balance, and social cohesion. “Creating urban parks that merge fitness, leisure, and environmental stewardship helps cities meet the health and recreational needs of diverse populations,” an urban planner said.
The Electrotherm Park underscores the potential for public-private collaborations in shaping inclusive, environmentally responsible urban spaces. By prioritising greenery, water-sensitive design, and active recreation, the project sets a benchmark for other Indian cities seeking to integrate wellness-oriented infrastructure within densely built environments. As Ahmedabad continues to expand its urban greenery and community-focused spaces, Electrotherm Park exemplifies the balance between human-centric design and sustainable urban planning, offering residents a lasting resource for leisure, fitness, and engagement with nature.
