Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Approves RS 217 Crore Water Infrastructure Project
Ahmedabad (Gujarat), 6th September 2025: In a significant boost for the city’s urban water infrastructure, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has awarded HEC Infra Projects Limited a ₹21.70 crore contract for upgrading the Madhubag Water Distribution Station. The project includes the construction of a 5-lakh-litre Elevated Service Reservoir (ESR) along with associated electro-mechanical works, aimed at enhancing water supply reliability across the Central Zone.
This award, executed in joint venture with Jay Bilnath Construction Co., underscores AMC’s continued trust in HEC Infra’s technical capabilities and robust project execution. It follows a series of repeat orders from the corporation over the past months, reflecting confidence in HEC Infra’s engineering solutions and commitment to urban sustainability.
Officials emphasised that the project aligns with AMC’s larger vision of resilient, eco-friendly, and efficient civic infrastructure. The 36-month assignment is expected to significantly improve water distribution efficiency and ensure uninterrupted supply in flood-prone and densely populated areas. By integrating advanced electro-mechanical systems, the project also focuses on energy efficiency, minimising operational carbon footprints in line with zero net carbon goals.
City planners highlighted that expanding water storage and distribution capacity is critical to supporting Ahmedabad’s rapid urbanisation. The Madhubag ESR project not only addresses existing demand pressures but also anticipates future population growth in Khadiya ward and surrounding localities. Experts noted that the project’s technical design incorporates sustainable construction practices, ensuring long-term reliability and minimising environmental impact.HEC Infra officials indicated that this project reinforces the company’s strategic focus on civic infrastructure projects across India. By leveraging prior experience with large-scale water and urban utility projects, HEC Infra aims to optimise timelines and quality standards, while also contributing to equitable access to essential services.Urban development analysts believe that investments such as this are pivotal in strengthening India’s mid-sized city infrastructure.
Improved water management systems, coupled with modern construction techniques, not only enhance citizen well-being but also reduce operational inefficiencies and resource wastage. Such projects create direct and indirect employment opportunities while fostering private-public collaboration in infrastructure development. While the assignment is set to span three years, officials stressed adherence to strict timelines, safety protocols, and sustainable practices. The AMC’s continued engagement with experienced EPC players like HEC Infra illustrates a model approach for building climate-resilient and socially equitable urban infrastructure in rapidly growing cities.
