Ahmedabad Launches ₹1506 Crore Projects Boosting Housing Civic Cultural And Infrastructure Development

Union Home Minister Amit Shah commenced a three-day visit to Gujarat from December 5 to 7, inaugurating projects worth ₹1,506 crore across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The initiatives span infrastructure, housing, civic improvements, and cultural development, reflecting the state’s continued focus on citizen-centric urban planning and inclusive growth. During the visit, Shah is scheduled to attend over 20 events, signalling a comprehensive approach to urban and rural development.

On December 5, Shah inaugurated the Ahmedabad Shopping Festival 2025 at Sindhu Bhavan Road, alongside new civic amenities including a PNG gas line, health facility, and schools for primary and girls’ education in Gandhinagar. Officials highlighted that these projects align with sustainable city objectives, offering residents improved access to essential services while promoting local commerce and community engagement.Housing infrastructure formed a significant part of Shah’s itinerary. A total of 1,370 new residences under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana were inaugurated in Thaltej and Vasana, while slum redevelopment projects at Nat Na Chhapra in Naranpura underwent foundation and lottery ceremonies. “These initiatives aim to enhance living standards for underserved urban communities, emphasising equitable access to housing,” an official said.

Civic and recreational enhancements included the renovation of Vastrapur Lake at ₹10 crore, the inauguration of a mini sports complex in Gota Devnagar, and the Electrotherm Garden in Bopal. “Developing accessible green and recreational spaces remains central to sustainable urban planning,” a city planner noted. Shah also attended cultural events, including Swadeshi Utsav and the Pramukh Varani Amrut Mahotsav at Sabarmati Riverfront, underscoring the integration of cultural vitality with urban development. The visit extended to Banaskantha district, where Shah inaugurated dairy and agro projects, including the Bio-CNG and Powder Plant in Lakhani and the potato plant in Vav and Tharad. These initiatives highlight cooperative development, women’s empowerment in agriculture, and climate-resilient approaches in energy and food production.

Shah’s engagements, spanning infrastructure, housing, civic amenities, education, cooperative development, and cultural promotion, demonstrate Gujarat’s multi-sectoral investment strategy. Analysts emphasised that such interventions strengthen urban resilience, improve quality of life, and support equitable access to public resources while aligning with long-term sustainability goals.By combining housing, cultural, and green infrastructure improvements with agro and cooperative initiatives, the ₹1,506 crore investment reflects a holistic vision for inclusive and sustainable city and regional development in Gujarat.
