Ahmedabad AUDA Clears 196 Hectares Rezoning For Major Road Projects

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has approved the rezoning of 196 hectares of land, paving the way for two major road projects previously stalled by agricultural zoning restrictions. This significant move, aimed at substantially boosting road connectivity within the city’s periphery, now awaits final approval from the state government. The initiative is a crucial step towards resolving long-standing infrastructure bottlenecks and facilitating smoother urban development in the rapidly expanding metropolitan area.

One of the key proposed roads will establish a 15-kilometre link from Karnavati Club to the Sanand-Viramgam Highway, passing through the villages of Godhavi, Kaneti, and Nidhrad, which currently fall under a restricted zone. The second project involves a 45-metre-wide Development Plan (DP) road connecting Ghuma to Rancharda, traversing villages such as Manipur, Palodia, and Shilaj. Portions of these vital routes were designated as agricultural zones, which had historically prevented necessary land acquisition and stalled their development.

To overcome these hurdles, AUDA’s board has formally approved the rezoning of 116 hectares near Godhavi-Nidhrad and an additional 80 hectares behind Ghuma. Once the state government grants its final assent, AUDA will proceed with initiating Town Planning (TP) schemes. This administrative action will enable the efficient acquisition of land and the commencement of construction work for these critical infrastructure projects. Authorities anticipate that the completion of these new roads will significantly ease traffic flow, particularly on the already congested SG Highway corridor.

This strategic rezoning marks a pivotal step for Ahmedabad’s urban infrastructure, promising enhanced connectivity and eased traffic congestion. By unlocking land for critical road networks, authorities are laying the groundwork for sustainable growth, improving daily commutes, and fostering more efficient regional development for the city’s expanding needs.
