Ahmedabad Airport Soars with 20 Lakh Flyers in April-May

Ahmedabad: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) in Ahmedabad witnessed a significant upsurge in passenger traffic during the months of April and May, buoyed by the vacation season and various sporting events.

According to airport authorities, a staggering 20 lakh passengers traversed through the airport terminals during these two months of FY2024. The heightened activity culminated on May 23, which marked the busiest day of the fiscal year thus far, accommodating a record-breaking 38,790 passengers across 279 flight movements. On average, the SVPI airport handles approximately 34,300 passengers and 268 aircraft traffic movements (ATMs) daily, showcasing a remarkable increase compared to the same period in FY2023, which saw 19 lakh passengers.

This robust growth in passenger numbers builds upon the airport’s stellar performance in the previous fiscal year, where it catered to a staggering 1.17 crore passengers. Recent operational enhancements at the airport, including the inauguration of a new swing-operated security hold area at Terminal 2, alongside the introduction of new domestic and international flight routes and increased frequencies, have contributed to this surge in passenger traffic.

Notable additions to the airport’s flight roster include Air Asia’s non-stop service to Kuala Lumpur with four weekly flights, as well as additional direct flights to Delhi courtesy of Air India. Commenting on passenger trends, the airport operator highlighted that popular domestic destinations from Ahmedabad included Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, and Jaipur, while top international routes comprised Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok, Doha, and Kuala Lumpur.

SVPI Airport presently facilitates connections to over 37 non-stop and four one-stop domestic destinations served by seven airlines, in addition to 17 airlines offering connections to 14 international destinations, further solidifying its position as a key aviation hub in the region.
