In a strategic move to bolster urban infrastructure, the state government has granted approval for the construction of two pivotal flyovers at Panjrapol and Panchvati junctions in Ahmedabad. The ambitious project, funded under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, boasts a substantial budget of Rs 1.8512 billion.
The Panjrapol junction flyover, spanning an impressive 652 metres in length and 17 metres in width, secures a budget allocation of Rs 869.4 million. Simultaneously, the Panchavati junction flyover, covering an extensive 779.19 metres in length and 17 metres in width, receives a dedicated fund of Rs 981.8 million.
Building on the success of the recently completed S-shaped flyover near Gujarat College, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) envisions an L-shaped route for the Panchvati junction flyover. Originating from the Radisson Blu hotel in the Law Garden area, the route extends towards Gita Rambhiya Circle via Panchvati Crossroad, culminating near the CN Vidyalaya gates. A strategic revision shifted the flyover’s endpoint from Central Mall to Gita Rambhiya Circle, enhancing its connectivity and impact. Sources indicate that the Panjrapol flyover will commence from the Polytechnic and conclude at the Ahmedabad Management Association, contributing to improved traffic flow and connectivity.
The urban development department recently presented a comprehensive proposal for these new flyovers in Ahmedabad to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, emphasising the Government’s commitment to enhancing the city’s infrastructure. Looking ahead, the Government’s visionary approach includes plans to construct a total of 20 flyovers in Ahmedabad, out of the broader plan of 75 across the state. An encouraging start is witnessed with the provisional sanctioning of Rs 6128.6 billion for seven of these flyovers.
In parallel, the urban development department receives a noteworthy budget of Rs 216.96 billion to drive qualitative changes in urban planning and management. The allocation aims to catalyse infrastructure development, encompassing roads, bridges, water supply systems, drainage, healthcare, and transportation improvements. Extending the trajectory of progress, the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, dedicated to comprehensive city development, is granted an extension until 2026-27. Commencing in 2009-10 to commemorate Gujarat’s 50th anniversary, the scheme continues to play a pivotal role in the state’s sustained urban development initiatives.
