Agri Community Pushes for Navi Mumbai Airport to Be Named After D.B. Patil
The Agri community, in collaboration with like-minded associations, has organised a special meeting to push for the naming of Navi Mumbai’s upcoming international airport in honour of social activist D.B. Patil. The meeting, a joint effort by the All Party Action Committee and the Akhil Agri Samaj Parishad, is scheduled to take place at 11 AM this Saturday at the Navi Mumbai Sports Association.
The primary agenda of this gathering is to reinforce the community’s longstanding demand for the airport to bear the name of D.B. Patil, a revered leader who fought for the rights of farmers, particularly in relation to land acquisitions carried out by the government in the 1970s. An official spokesperson for the event explained, “This meeting has been convened to ensure that the proposal for naming the airport after D.B. Patil moves forward without delay. His contributions to the welfare of farmers have left a lasting legacy in our region.” The proposal to name the airport after D.B. Patil has received overwhelming support from various groups, particularly within the farming community. In the past, a resolution was passed by the community, which was subsequently forwarded to the Union government.
According to the spokesperson, “The resolution to name the airport ‘D.B. Patil International Airport’ has already been approved at the central level. However, we are still waiting for a formal notification to make the decision official.” The upcoming meeting will not only focus on the naming proposal but also discuss the next steps in ensuring that this long-standing demand is recognised and implemented promptly. The Agri community’s commitment to honouring D.B. Patil reflects the enduring admiration for his contributions to the region’s farmers, making the naming of the airport an emotional and significant cause for many.
