Thane city authorities have announced major traffic diversions in Kalyan East as the Dharamveer Anand Dighe Chowk–Kolsewadi Police Station stretch is set to close for bridge reconstruction. The closure, effective from January 22 to May 21, is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade intended to strengthen urban connectivity while maintaining commuter safety and traffic flow.
According to traffic officials, the bridge project responds to long-standing infrastructure demands in Kalyan East, a rapidly growing node of the Thane Metropolitan Region. The temporary rerouting affects both small vehicles and heavy traffic, necessitating alternate pathways to mitigate congestion during the construction period. Heavy and regular vehicles are advised to use the F Cabin Road via Ambedkar Chowk, Shriram Chowk, and Pune Link Road, which will remain open in both directions. For commuters using Vitthalwadi Station Road, an alternate route via Ambedkar Chowk towards the Mahindra showroom and Shriram Chowk has been designated. Small vehicles are directed to Hanuman Nagar Road to reach Pune Link Road safely. Officials stress adherence to these detours to ensure smooth traffic management and prevent bottlenecks along secondary roads.
Urban planners note that such diversions, while inconvenient, are critical for long-term urban resilience. “Reconstruction projects of this scale improve structural integrity and reduce future maintenance disruptions,” said a senior municipal infrastructure official. The upgrade is expected to enhance safety for pedestrians and vehicles, aligning with broader Thane city goals of sustainable and efficient road networks. Traffic authorities also highlighted coordination with emergency services, public transport operators, and local businesses to reduce disruptions. Signage and monitoring are being enhanced along affected routes, while real-time updates will be shared via official communication channels, including social media and municipal alerts.
This closure coincides with ongoing urban mobility adjustments in nearby nodes, where infrastructure expansion has been accelerating to match population growth and commercial activity. The project aligns with regional urban planning objectives, which aim to integrate road safety, flood mitigation, and climate-adaptive design into everyday infrastructure projects. Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan travel accordingly and consider alternate timings to avoid peak congestion. Authorities emphasise that these temporary measures are essential for long-term traffic efficiency and urban safety in Kalyan East.
