The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken significant strides towards the expansion of the Bhubaneswar Metro project with the recent completion of a comprehensive route survey.
The survey, conducted in collaboration with various local agencies, aims to facilitate the seamless execution of the metro project by identifying and relocating essential utilities along the proposed stretch from Capital Hospital to Trisulia. According to sources within the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC), the survey was conducted over two days, with a specialised team from DMRC working alongside officials from BMRC, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), and other pertinent stakeholders. The survey included representatives from Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL), Commissionerate Police, and utility providers like TPCODL, GAIL, BSNL, and WATCO.
The primary objective of the survey was to identify existing infrastructure and utilities within the designated metro corridor, including traffic posts, electricity poles, water pipes, telephone lines, and gas pipelines. This meticulous assessment is crucial for determining the necessary relocation and realignment of these utilities to accommodate the metro project’s construction and operation seamlessly. With the completion of the survey, the focus now shifts to the estimation and budget allocation for the relocation of identified utilities. BMRC officials emphasised the importance of timely preparation and funding allocation to ensure the smooth progression of the project.
The Bhubaneswar Metro project, spearheaded by the Odisha government in collaboration with DMRC, is a significant infrastructural endeavour aimed at enhancing connectivity and mobility in the region. The project’s first phase, spanning 26 kilometres with 20 stations, aims to link key destinations such as Biju Patnaik International Airport, Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, and Trisulia in Cuttack. The recent route survey marks a pivotal milestone in the project’s advancement, underscoring the commitment of stakeholders to expedite the metro’s development and deliver enhanced transportation solutions to the citizens of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. As preparations continue, the project remains on track to meet its ambitious completion timeline, promising to revolutionise urban mobility in the region within the next four years.
