Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India’s $30 billion engineering and construction conglomerate, has won a significant contract for the development of Phase Two of the Greenfield Radial Road project in Hyderabad’s Ranga Reddy district. The order, classified by L&T as “significant” typically indicative of a contract value between Rs 10 billion and Rs 25 billion will see the company construct a 22.3 km, six-lane, access-controlled radial corridor linking the Outer Ring Road with the upcoming Regional Ring Road.
The Hyderabad-based corridor is expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity to key employment and educational hubs, and enhance mobility for residents. L&T’s scope includes a 3.6 km viaduct, minor bridges, underpasses, culverts, and service roads on both sides. Additional elements, such as stormwater drainage systems, footpaths, cycle tracks, retention structures, and landscaping, reflect a holistic approach to urban transport infrastructure. “This project demonstrates a commitment to sustainable mobility solutions, integrating green and pedestrian-friendly design elements,” said an infrastructure analyst familiar with the development. The radial road forms the first link of several planned corridors designed to connect Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road with peripheral districts. Industry experts note that such projects are vital for decongesting the city core, promoting efficient logistics, and supporting rapid urban expansion in high-growth corridors. Key beneficiaries are anticipated to include IT hubs, the Electronic City zone, Young India Skills University, and the Bharat Future City development.
L&T has been active in multiple infrastructure and construction verticals, including its Power Transmission & Distribution division, which recently secured contracts for 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines supporting renewable energy integration in Andhra Pradesh and across the Middle East. Simultaneously, the company’s Buildings & Factories division achieved its largest private residential project in India, covering commercial and residential towers in Hyderabad and Chennai. Analysts highlight that L&T’s integrated engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) expertise positions the firm well for complex, multi-modal infrastructure projects. “Large-scale road projects such as this demand coordinated design, execution, and sustainability planning. L&T’s track record in both domestic and international markets underscores confidence in timely delivery and quality compliance,” said a senior urban planner.
With Hyderabad experiencing rapid urbanisation and demand for reliable transit corridors, the Greenfield Radial Road is expected to catalyse inclusive growth, improve access for all commuters, and support low-carbon mobility initiatives. Projects incorporating cycling lanes, footpaths, and green infrastructure also align with emerging city-level sustainability priorities, balancing development with environmental stewardship.
