Gurugram MCG Seals Four Properties Over Eighty Nine Lakh Tax Dues

Gurugram’s municipal authorities have intensified action against property tax defaulters, sealing four high-value properties in Zone-1 after discovering outstanding dues exceeding Rs 89 lakh. The move underscores the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram’s (MCG) commitment to ensuring timely revenue collection, which is crucial for the city’s infrastructure and service delivery.

The properties, located in Pace City 2 (Sector 37), Udyog Vihar Phase-3, and Sector 35, carried individual pending amounts ranging from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 35 lakh. The enforcement drive was executed by the Zone-1 tax team under the supervision of tax inspector Pankaj Saluja, following repeated reminders to the property owners to clear their liabilities within a stipulated timeline. The dues on the four properties stood at Rs 35.29 lakh, Rs 16.78 lakh, Rs 16.73 lakh, and Rs 20.85 lakh, respectively. “Property tax constitutes one of the primary revenue streams for the corporation, directly affecting the city’s ability to maintain essential civic services,” an official said. The sealing action is intended not only to recover arrears but also to deter persistent non-compliance, emphasising that adherence to municipal regulations is a civic responsibility. MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya highlighted the broader implications of timely tax collection, noting that funds from property taxes support sanitation, road maintenance, water supply, street lighting, and other infrastructure initiatives. “Non-payment of taxes deprives citizens of vital services. Our enforcement measures are designed to ensure fairness and accountability,” he said. Dahiya also confirmed that similar scrutiny and action will be extended across other city zones where significant arrears remain.

The corporation had issued three separate notices over a month-long period before taking coercive action, reflecting a measured approach that allows residents an opportunity to comply voluntarily. “Citizens who settle dues promptly can avoid such measures, but continued neglect will compel the corporation to act as per legal provisions,” the commissioner added. Urban policy analysts note that targeted enforcement drives like these can improve compliance rates and support sustainable urban governance. By linking revenue collection to the maintenance and expansion of civic infrastructure, cities like Gurugram can ensure equitable access to services while fostering a culture of responsible urban citizenship.

The MCG has committed to enhanced monitoring of property tax records and will continue to conduct periodic enforcement drives. Officials emphasise that compliance is critical to sustaining urban services, supporting planned infrastructure projects, and ensuring that growth in Gurugram remains inclusive and well-serviced.
