Delhi Police Receives 653 Crore Funding For New Stations And Facilities

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned ₹653.4 crore to Delhi Police for a major infrastructure upgrade, covering 26 new projects including 18 police stations, seven police posts, and multiple staff quarters. The initiative aims to provide modern, well-equipped facilities that enhance operational efficiency while ensuring a gender-sensitive working environment for women personnel.

The ambitious rollout, to be executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), will see new police stations constructed in areas such as Narela, IFC Pocket, Sector A7, Fatehpur Beri, Sawada Ghevra, Bhalswa Dairy, Raj Park, Burari, Kapsheda, Palam Village, Aman Vihar, Shahbad Dairy, and Dheerpur. Each facility is projected to cost ₹35-37 crore. Alongside these stations, police posts—mini stations designed to strengthen local policing—will be built at Subhash Place, Lok Nayak Puram, and Vasant Gaon. A women’s hostel in Rohini, with a budget of around ₹16.7 crore, will provide safe accommodation and facilities for female personnel, reflecting the city’s commitment to gender-inclusive policing infrastructure.

The projects also include 180 staff quarters with a mix of Type II and III units, to ensure comfortable living conditions for police personnel across multiple precincts including Govindpuri, Safdarjung Enclave, Bharat Nagar, and Deshbandhu Gupta Road. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve the quality of life and operational readiness for officers stationed in both central and peripheral areas. Officials highlight that many existing stations have been operating in dilapidated conditions, some even out of temporary or portable cabins. Such makeshift arrangements have hindered operational effectiveness and posed safety risks for both officers and the public. “With this allocation, Delhi Police will be able to upgrade its infrastructure and enhance service delivery across the city,” said a senior officer.

Urban safety experts note that modern, strategically located police facilities not only improve policing efficiency but also enhance community trust and engagement. By integrating gender-sensitive design and modern amenities, the city is moving towards an equitable and sustainable law enforcement environment. The funding injection represents a critical step in bolstering Delhi’s public safety infrastructure while balancing fiscal prudence. Authorities will monitor project implementation closely to ensure timely completion, sustainability, and adherence to contemporary urban planning and safety standards.
