In a significant step towards the redevelopment of Dharavi, the second phase of a comprehensive housing eligibility survey is set to commence today, marking a crucial milestone in the transformation of Asia’s largest slum.
Spearheaded by Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), this survey aims to identify eligible residents for free housing under the ambitious redevelopment initiative. The survey, which commenced on March 18 with the issuance of unique identification numbers to Dharavi residents, will now enter its next phase with surveyors from DRPPL conducting door-to-door visits to all structures marked with these unique identifiers. Beginning from the Kamla Raman Nagar area, the surveyors will meticulously collect essential documents from tenants, which will be promptly scanned on-site and returned to the residents. These scanned documents will then be catalogued in a centralised system, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process for housing eligibility verification. The Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Adani Realty and the state government, stands at the forefront of this monumental endeavour. With a commitment to redeveloping Dharavi into a vibrant, modern community, the project aims not only to provide improved housing infrastructure but also to foster socio-economic development in the region.
Moreover, the housing eligibility survey holds dual significance, as it not only determines the beneficiaries of free housing but also lays the groundwork for the creation of ‘Digital Dharavi.’ This innovative initiative aims to digitise and archive vital information about Dharavi’s residents and structures, creating an invaluable resource for urban planners and policymakers. Expected to be completed within eight months, the survey heralds a new era for Dharavi, positioning it as a model
