PM Modi Will Inaugurate Bengaluru Metro Line On August 10

Bengaluru is set to take a significant stride in urban mobility as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro on August 10. The launch marks a milestone in the city’s public transport evolution and is poised to deliver substantial relief to lakhs of daily commuters battling Bengaluru’s growing traffic congestion.

The Yellow Line stretches 19.15 kilometres, connecting RV Road in the heart of the city to Bommasandra in the southern industrial belt. With 16 strategically located stations, the corridor has been developed at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore and is projected to serve over 8 lakh passengers every day. Infrastructure experts and civic planners view the project as a crucial link that will reduce dependency on private transport and bring seamless connectivity to high-density employment and residential zones. Officials confirmed that the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Phase 3 of the Bengaluru Metro project during the same event. This upcoming expansion will add 44.65 kilometres to the existing network at an estimated cost of ₹15,611 crore. The dual announcement is expected to reinforce the government’s focus on strengthening clean and efficient urban transit systems in India’s leading tech hubs.

The Yellow Line’s alignment is particularly impactful, as it runs through critical junctions such as Silk Board, a major bottleneck notorious for prolonged traffic snarls. The corridor’s integration with the rest of the metro grid will improve last-mile connectivity, reduce surface traffic load, and support the city’s long-term sustainability goals. According to metro officials, trial runs and safety inspections have already been successfully completed, and services are expected to open to the public by Independence Day, August 15. This punctual rollout has been attributed to high-level coordination between central and state authorities, ensuring fast-tracked clearances and uninterrupted execution of the final construction phases.

Urban transport experts have long advocated for mass rapid transit solutions as the only viable antidote to Bengaluru’s traffic and pollution challenges. With daily road commutes becoming increasingly unsustainable, the metro expansion promises a cleaner, safer, and more accessible alternative. The Yellow Line is also expected to bolster eco-friendly commuting by cutting down vehicular emissions and supporting equitable access across city zones. The launch of the Yellow Line reflects a broader vision for zero-carbon urban development. With the Prime Minister’s presence underscoring the project’s national importance, Bengaluru’s mobility transformation is poised for a new chapter.

The upcoming ceremony is expected to draw wide public and administrative attention, further galvanising efforts to accelerate public infrastructure projects across India’s growing cities.
