Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi has achieved a remarkable ascent in the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) latest customer satisfaction survey, climbing from 34th to an impressive fifth position nationally. This significant leap, reflected in a score of 4.96 out of a possible five points across 33 passenger-centric parameters, signals a profound enhancement in the overall traveller experience. Conducted between January and June this year among 62 operational airports, the survey underscores Ranchi’s commitment to optimising its aviation infrastructure and passenger services, setting a new benchmark for regional air hubs.
The airport’s performance marks a consistent upward trajectory, improving from 4.25 points last year when it was ranked 34th, and 4.69 points in the second half of 2024. The comprehensive customer satisfaction index evaluates various critical touchpoints, including the efficiency of ground transport to and from the airport, availability of baggage trolleys, the courteousness and efficiency of check-in staff, waiting times at security checkpoints, cleanliness, seating arrangements, and the quality of essential amenities like washrooms. Ranchi’s near-perfect score across several of these crucial parameters indicates a dedicated focus on operational excellence.
Airport management attributes this achievement directly to responsive engagement with passenger feedback. Recognising previous grievances, particularly concerning the availability of adequate taxi services, the airport authority proactively addressed these concerns. This strategic intervention culminated in a recent partnership with a leading cab aggregator on July 14, aimed at significantly enhancing ground transportation convenience. Furthermore, the introduction of an ambulance service facility underscores a robust commitment to passenger safety and well-being, ensuring prompt medical assistance during emergencies.
These service enhancement initiatives are integral to developing sustainable and equitable urban ecosystems. By improving accessibility, ensuring cleanliness, and prioritising passenger comfort, Birsa Munda Airport contributes to a more inclusive and efficient city, benefiting all citizens. Enhanced air connectivity is crucial for economic growth, fostering business, and facilitating tourism, thereby reducing regional disparities. While the airport has made substantial strides, challenges persist, notably concerning parking space availability and the expansion of direct flight connectivity to key destinations across the nation, including the North-Eastern states and popular tourist locales.
