Maharashtra Longest Rail Flyover Launched In Kalamboli With Innovative Technique

Maharashtra’s rail infrastructure marked a significant milestone with the successful launch of the longest open-web steel girder rail flyover in Kalamboli. This monumental achievement, executed by a major infrastructure firm under a dedicated freight corridor project, involved an innovative radial-slew launch across operational railway lines—a first-of-its-kind method in India. A specialized engineering solutions provider contributed critical engineered systems, providing the backbone for this complex operation. The project is set to significantly boost cargo traffic, enhancing regional connectivity and economic development in the state, showcasing advanced engineering capabilities.

While the primary open-web steel girder was not manufactured or erected by the specialized engineering solutions provider, its customized high-precision launching beams and precision-machined trussel heads were instrumental. These systems were meticulously designed to manage extreme loads and maintain optimal camber control for perfect longitudinal alignment during the launch. The project’s comprehensive scope also included end-to-end site coordination, with the provider’s engineering team actively supporting the erection crew. This involvement encompassed alignment checks, staging procedures, and providing live technical assistance during critical launch phases, ensuring seamless execution despite a highly compressed timeline for the complex operation.

The impressive girder, spanning approximately 110 to 110.5 meters in length and weighing nearly 1,650 tons, was successfully launched across a 34-meter shift distance. This intricate radial-slew technique was completed across four midnight traffic blocks, authorized by Central Railway, minimizing disruption to existing train operations. All critical support structures were delivered within a demanding 45-day manufacturing window, highlighting rapid production capabilities. Third-party inspections confirmed zero deviation during load transfer and launch, underscoring the exceptional precision and reliability of the systems employed. This project signifies a major advancement in rail-based freight infrastructure within Maharashtra, promising to significantly enhance cargo movement and reinforce the state’s logistical capabilities.

This landmark project in Kalamboli demonstrates cutting-edge engineering and collaborative precision in infrastructure development. It not only boosts Maharashtra’s freight capacity but also positions the nation at the forefront of innovative heavy-duty construction. Such advancements are crucial for modernizing India’s logistics network, fostering economic growth, and enabling more efficient and sustainable transportation solutions nationwide.
