Pune Startup Drives Energy Storage Breakthrough With Smart Solar Grid Software

In Pune’s rapidly evolving green tech ecosystem, a homegrown startup is reshaping how solar energy is stored and managed across India. With rising solar adoption and growing grid demands, this company’s proprietary energy management system is enabling smarter storage solutions that reduce dependence on fossil fuel grids while supporting scalable clean energy access. Its innovations are now powering both rural microgrids and urban energy storage contracts nationwide.

The firm’s journey began with identifying a bottleneck: traditional batteries could store energy but lacked intelligent discharge mechanisms. Large-scale energy demands, particularly in the evening when solar power isn’t being generated, needed a system that could manage the timing and load of energy release. This insight led to the creation of a proprietary Energy Management Software (EMS) platform called Elina, designed to work across battery chemistries—whether lithium-ion, sodium, or lead-acid. Initially tested in Uttar Pradesh’s off-grid villages, the system faced early setbacks due to hardware limitations. But by switching to lithium-ion batteries and leveraging their EMS, the company succeeded in powering two rural microgrids. These projects provided a proof of concept for larger-scale deployments, eventually attracting the attention of developers and utilities.

A key turning point came when the firm partnered with a battery manufacturer to bid for an urban energy storage tender floated by a major discom. Winning the project allowed their EMS to manage multiple 250KWh systems across Delhi, making it their first large-scale commercial deployment. Today, the startup operates from a factory near Pune, where it assembles modular energy storage units housed in treated shipping containers. These units are capable of delivering 25MWh of clean, dispatchable power. The firm’s edge lies in its software’s adaptability—capable of integrating with Indian energy markets and regulations, offering grid trading and smart discharge logic not yet standard in international competition.

With a growing order book spanning Rajasthan and Gujarat, and profitability achieved without excessive fundraising, the company now aims to position itself among the top ten global energy storage players. Its model reflects how sustainable innovation, when built on adaptive software, can catalyse real transformation across India’s clean energy infrastructure.
