Delhi Swarnim Bharat Yatra Train Begins 10 Day Freedom Trail Before Independence Day

In a unique tribute to India’s independence, Indian Railways will launch the ‘Swarnim Bharat Yatra’ from Delhi on 14 August. Operated under the Bharat Gaurav initiative, this 10-day heritage journey will offer travellers a curated tour of culturally and historically significant sites across five states, showcasing India’s freedom legacy, architectural marvels, and spiritual heritage.

Departing from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station, the tour will first head to Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad—an epicentre of Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom movement. From there, passengers will explore the architectural finesse of Adalaj Stepwell and Sun Temple in Modhera, and the UNESCO-listed Rani Ki Vav in Patan. In Kevadia, the Statue of Unity and the Sardar Sarovar Dam will highlight India’s engineering prowess and environmental transformation efforts. As the journey progresses, the train will reach Pune, home to the Aga Khan Palace, a landmark of the Quit India Movement. The itinerary then continues to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), where UNESCO heritage sites such as Ajanta and Ellora Caves await, along with the revered Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga.

The journey concludes with Jhansi Fort and the heritage architecture of Orchha before returning to the capital. The special train, configured as a Deluxe AC Tourist Train, includes First, Second, and Third AC coaches with modern amenities such as dining cars, CCTV surveillance, foot massagers, and smart washrooms. It accommodates 150 passengers, with boarding options at Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari, Ringas, Phulera, and Ajmer. Designed with sustainable tourism in mind, the tour also includes hotel stays, vegetarian meals, AC transportation, guided sightseeing, and insurance. The tariff ranges from ₹71,585 to ₹1,01,430, based on accommodation class, and is being managed by IRCTC.

Officials said the Yatra aims not only to honour India’s rich cultural roots but also to promote eco-conscious domestic tourism. The initiative blends heritage, comfort, and national pride in one holistic experience ahead of Independence Day.
