Fifth Yamuna Bridge Completed in Delhi Metro Phase 4

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved a significant milestone in its Phase IV expansion with the completion of a new bridge over the Yamuna River.

This bridge, connecting Soorghat and Sonia Vihar stations on the 13.4 km Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor, marks the fifth time the Metro network crosses the Yamuna, enhancing connectivity in the northeastern parts of the city. The newly constructed bridge spans approximately 560 meters and is strategically located between the existing Wazirabad and Signature bridges. It is part of the Pink Line extension, which aims to form a ring corridor around Delhi, facilitating seamless travel across various parts of the city.

The Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor is expected to become operational by mid-2025, introducing eight new stations: Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur Village, Soorghat, Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, and Yamuna Vihar. This extension is anticipated to significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for residents in these areas. The bridge’s construction employs advanced engineering techniques to ensure durability and safety. Its completion not only signifies infrastructural progress but also aligns with the city’s goals of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.

In addition to the Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor, Delhi Metro’s Phase IV encompasses several other projects aimed at enhancing the city’s transit infrastructure. These include the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg and Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridors, collectively adding over 65 km of new lines and 44 stations to the network. The expansion is part of a broader initiative to create a more connected, sustainable, and equitable urban environment in Delhi. By improving public transportation, the city aims to reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and provide accessible transit options for all residents.

As the city continues to grow, such infrastructural developments are crucial in addressing the increasing demand for efficient and reliable public transportation. The completion of the fifth Yamuna bridge stands as a testament to Delhi Metro’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and fostering sustainable development.
