Maha Metro Announces Bids for 14 Elevated Stations

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro) has invited bids to appoint a detailed design consultant for 14 elevated stations across two vital corridors: Kharadi-Khadakwasla and Nal Stop-Manik Baug. This initiative is expected to drive the city’s growth by significantly improving both infrastructure and sustainability.

The 14 stations under consideration include eight from Deshpande Udyan to Khadakwasla along the Kharadi-Khadakwasla corridor, and six from Nal Stop to Daulat Nagar along the Nal Stop-Manik Baug corridor. The consultant’s responsibilities will encompass the entire architectural and structural design, excluding the viaduct portions. Among the key design elements are the integration of green building certifications and sustainability-focused features such as solar panel installations. Additionally, the consultant will work on crucial systems like electrical and mechanical services, fire safety, and plumbing, ensuring compliance with global standards.

What sets this project apart is its focus on integrating commercial opportunities into metro stations. The consultant will explore the feasibility of retail spaces, advertisement panels, and kiosks within the stations to generate additional revenue, ensuring that the metro remains financially sustainable while enhancing the passenger experience.

Moreover, the potential for constructing additional commercial floors above or below the platform levels will also be considered, although no additional payments will be made for these additions.

Approved by the Maharashtra government in October 2024, the Kharadi-Khadakwasla and Nal Stop-Manik Baug corridors are part of the larger 31.64-kilometre Phase 2 extension of Pune Metro, which has an estimated cost of ₹9,897.19 crore. This expansion promises to not only ease traffic congestion but also contribute to Pune’s sustainable urban development, fostering eco-friendly, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure for the growing city.
